Make-a-Space Kit

The Make-a-Space Kit has been developed from the experience of members of established, sustainable spaces. Want to start your own space or figure out some steps your space might have missed? The Make-a-Space Kit might be right for you. While not every step is necessary, and not everything will be covered, it's a good start.

Each space is unique, and grown from its geography, but the majority of spaces go through four main phases:

• Discovery : Learning about the community, forming the starting team, determine feasibility, plan location
• Formation : Legal setup, process setup, community invitations, get into the space, setup the space
• Launch : Opening event, invite the community, kickoff broad-scale marketing, identify potential partners, recruit more members
• Outreach : Link to community partners, involve educational partners, develop brand awareness, invite outsiders, keep population changing and growing

Conversations can also occur around each of the tasks, with experienced space facilitators offering advice, and new participants bringing fresh ideas and perspective.
