The Young Women’s Institute for Global Studies
Our mission:
To equip young women with the skills to transform an unstable world into one in which peace, justice, and equity are the norm.
The Young Women’s Institute for Global Studies (TYWIGS) is a new independent high school that will open in August of 2008 in downtown Milwaukee to equip young women with the skills to transform an unstable world into one in which peace, justice, and equity are the norm.
Students at TYWIGS will develop these skills by working on projects that connect their local community to the globe. They will learn from and further the growth of sustainable energy, human rights, global communications, and other positive trends. They will become courageous, honest, and committed leaders: from president of their own company to President of the United States.
Through their real-world learning work, students at the Institute will also build relationships with adult professionals and mentors. By the time a young woman graduates from TYWIGS, she will have the skills and knowledge to confidently proceed into her career with passion, and a network of adults who will help her grow her future. TYWIGS graduates will succeed in their own lives while contributing to the world beyond.
